About

Suddenly and out of the blue, I have found myself madly in love, swept off my feet by a tall, teddy bear of a high school football coach. At our age! We’ve got our baggage; we both lost previous spouses through death and divorce and years of personal history we’re now merging into one story.

And just like how my first date with Anthony Cianfichi irrevocably changed my life, so, too, did my first visit to the Electric City of Scranton on Easter weekend 2018. For the second time in the past year, I’ve been enchanted, and so was Tony, despite being born and raised on the West Side. His family life was centered around St. Lucy’s parish, Cabrini Elementary and Scranton Prep. He left decades ago when he joined the Air Force.

The 36 hours we spent in Scranton that chilly spring weekend transformed us. Tony found hescran tony can go home again.  But Scranton feels like it could be my home, too, and it reminded me of this passage: “Ruth said, for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodge, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.”

So, Tony and I are going to blow up our lives. We’re moving to Scranton! We’re going to sell everything, find new jobs and make the trek up north. We have no idea how long it’s going to take, but after spending this many years on the planet we know a thing or two about patience.

I hope to chronicle our experiences and we hope you’ll follow us along on this great, mid-life adventure!

By the way, I’m an award-winning journalist and mother of three brilliant daughters. Tony is retired from the Air Force and enjoying his second career as a high school football coach. He has a magnificent son and step-daughter.
